Hikes on the Hudson River School Art Trail

The Hudson River School of art can not be fully appreciated without a visit to the sites that inspired the great paintings. Each year, Cedar Grove offers guided hikes with themes relating to Thomas Cole, his contemporaries, and 19th-century American culture.

"Kindred Spirits" Hike
October 16, 9 am

The magnificent view behind Thomas Cole and William Cullen Bryant in the painting "Kindred Spirits" is considered to be a compilation of several places, both real and romanticized, in and around Kaaterskill Clove in the Catskill Mountains. Join us on a hike to some of the beautiful places that inspired the great painting by Asher B. Durand. The hike departs at 9am from Cedar Grove, returning in time for the 2pm Sunday Salon on the same topic. The hike is $25 per person, $20 for members of Cedar Grove. Space is limited, please send your check to Thomas Cole Historic Site, PO Box 426, Catskill, NY, 12414.
